I didn’t know Bet was so close to the tragedy—that’s so sad—I’m sorry you had to deal with that along with everyone else connected to the horrible event.
Re: Don Ho. I own a Hawaiian shirt that was designed by his daughter. It’s my good luck shirt.
And yeah, Vonnegut will be missed for sure. Check out a great interview with him back in 2004 (I think) here: http://www.pbs.org/now/arts/vonnegut.html
Wow… I have no recollection of the Roddy McDowell thing. I’ll have to watch that series again. I know the end of the first movie features the destruction of the Earth—we are definitely meant to think that everyone died. But the second one was the only one Roddy wasn’t in. Some other dude played Cornelius in that one. The 3rd one has Zira and Cornelius back in modern times. The sequel to that involves the rise of the apes and the fifth POTA movie is all about Cornelius’ son starting ape society and features John Huston, of all people, in a cameo in the beginning as the Law Giver.
Did you do favorite toys? What about toys you wish existed but don’t? Like maybe a George W. Bush voodoo doll?
Bet, regarding Grindhouse ripping off Movie Movie? Someone else is already suing QT for ripping off his movie called Grindhouse, which, while isn’t a double feature, is called Grindhouse and is, apparently, a grindhouse-style movie. While I am not at all a fan of QT or his movies, I am happy to defend QT from these kinds of accusations. You can’t really rip off a movie structure. Running two movies back-to-back is just a really short anthology, really. Now, I’m not saying QT isn’t a rip-off artist (or at the very least very derivative), but in this instance he isn’t.
Thanks for the semiRIP on Barry Nelson—he starred as James Bond in a TV movie version of Casino Royale where Bond was American and wore a bow-tie.
Yyyeah.
Stray Dog is AWESOME.
Whoops—outta time…
I’m trying not to bite on the TicketBastard issue. I’ve got to keep my blood pressure down. The way they used to do it struck me as fair—for concerts, tickets would be on sale at the venue for 4-6 hours before opening them up to the rest of the world via places like TicketBastard. That way, the people who decided to camp out would get great seats—a way of rewarding loyalty, devotion, or sheer insanity.
Oh wow—I looked up “ort”, thinking it had to do with the Ort cloud, thinking it’s odd that they would use a proper noun. Instead, I found this:
n. 1. A small scrap or leaving of food after a meal is completed. Often used in the plural.
2. A scrap; a bit.
I’m glad I could edjamicate you.
Other weird tests—can you roll your tongue? Can you taste that chemical paper (the one that’s foul if you can taste it)? Can you pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time (yes, but try reversing it—can’t do that)?
John Sebastian didn’t cover how to retrieve your pick if you drop it in the autoharp? Bastard! And that is so over-achiever of you, to get a more complicated autoharp than the one that John Sebastian uses….
How about for a topic, who stole your singing career? I maintain that if I had ever had the talent to become a musician, I would have aspired to be Amy Winehouse, a weird-looking big-voiced alto old-school soul diva. But alas, she beat me to it.
Part 2:
Sadly, I used to work for Ticketmaster—they bought the building Jim Cameron built on the Sunset strip. Cameron put in a screening room for dailies and roughcuts, but when he moved out, Ticketbastards bought the building and started renting out the screening room for press screenings. So, for a while I was projecting movies for them. 🙁 The money was REAL good, though. $100/screening. Not bad for 3 hours of work, of course, it’s still 1/3 of what I’d get as a union projectionist.
My condolences for any absurd fees you guys had to pay. If it’s any consolation I took the money I made and survived off of it.
Another fun show, guys! More Pyramid!! Or maybe Trivial Pursuit?
Bet – thanks so much for the picture – glad we were saved!! My Name is Earl – I think I’ve already said – I love this show.
Thanks for taking time for some VT thoughts.
Stennie – sorry about your favorite character being killed off 🙁
Autoharp – lovely story. This made me laugh and I really needed that!! Sorry about your string breaking. Dang – that’s a long time to tune!! Wow – pick lost – now that seems like something that could easily happen. I really can’t believe you lost the other one in your plant. I second Bitterspice – I’m in disbelief that they didn’t go over pick retrieval.
I join you with the FO for the media – today during the moment of silence on the drillfield, all the sudden I hear behind me like a golf announcer “and the students are showing their solidarity by wearing orange and maroon.” A girl next to me says “it’s a moment of SILENCE” – I just wanted to yell “you go girl” but it was still a moment of silence so I refrained.
I used to have nightmares that there was a hand with a gun that would come up under my bed – I also did the big hop from the light to the bed. I actually got a trundle bed because of this! My son uses it now – hopefully it will help him avoid this childhood horror

Hi!
