Episode 54: It’s late, the sound’s a little ragged, but it’s here at last anyway. Shout-outs, RIP Tom Poston, movies, At the Movies With Bet & Stennie, lowlights & highlights, fuck-offs, Great TV Theme Songs, including a few lyrics you never knew.

Tee hee. Captain A. got double-dogged! Ooh!
Best thing about 1984 was the soundtrack. Still listen to it.
It’s so funny what we do with ordering gifts—I do it too. You know it’s not going to get there in time, but you make sure to buy it before you see the person or five minutes before the holiday in question so you can say “it’s on the way”, if only to yourself.
Yes, there are drycleaners everywhere in DC. I can walk to at least two. There are some places where there are not in DC (along with sit down restaurants and grocery stores), but trust me, a guy this pissy doesn’t live in that part of town. Please tell me this guy is a DC judge and not from the People’s Republic of Arlington. What an ass.
For those of you in the insurance biz, will y’all be insuring those new cars that let (encourage) you drive like a moron and speed, not pay attention and nearly run into things?
There’s something about the Good Times theme that gets me, although the show sucks. I think it’s the gospel choir closing credits version. But it seems like you were talking about the ones without words, or at least ones that were played on air.
I have to say that I enjoyed Children of Men, I can’t say that I liked it. I found it to be kind of predictable (except for Julianne Moore) and very heavy handed. I never understood why the black guy was such a dick and I saw the ending coming a mile away (and would have even if I hadn’t seen the trailer, which just about gives it away).
Whisky Galore—this isn’t the one about Pussy’s mom?
HAHAHAHA
Sten fell in love with a fish?
FISH FUCKER!!
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
My wife is trying to learn to play the git-tar and I’m going to pass on the Eddie Ate Dynamite thing. That’s awesome.
Judges=assholes
Anyone who thinks they are qualified to judge other people PROFESSIONALLY is probably a pompous, overbearing, holier-than-thou, dickhead. And yes, I was the victim of a frivolous lawsuit and because I didn’t have (couldn’t afford) a lawyer I lost. When I found a lawyer who would work for me for $400 (which I borrowed from my dad) he said he couldn’t give me a second chance to defend myself because, and I quote, “that would be punishing the plaintiff for having a lawyer.”
The plaintiff IS A LAW FIRM specializing in buying up old, time-barred debt for real cheap and then suing with the hope that the person being sued won’t know that the debt can’t legally be collected. This scam is perfectly legal because in civil cases you are guilty before you prove yourself innocent.
Sorry, I’m a little bitter! Luckily, they haven’t figured out how to get the money out of me yet, but it’s still a big fat blemish on my credit report. Sorry to rant, but you guys just HAD to talk about a judge!!
Sten’s never been in a car accident? Damn—statistically, YOU ARE A TICKING TIME BOMB!! I’m never going in a car with you!!!
Most hated theme song: All in the Family
Favorite themes:
Original Battlestar Galactica
New Battlestar Galactica (the whole score ROCKS)
Cowboy Bebop <—all time fave—it’s anime, but the music is awesome.
Soap
MST3K (Am I the only one who has noticed how common the phrase “in the not too distant future” is now?)
Daily Show
Doctor Who (the newest version is kick ass, not to mention the remixes done by the techno band, Orbital.)
I’ll have to do the next CD mix exchange and throw a track or two from Cowboy Bebop. It’s seriously some of the best jazz ever.
Oh yeah and this is a warning to all of your listeners:
DON’T SEE SPIDER-MAN 3
It’s crap.
Seriously.
I’m just warning everyone. I’ve walked out of two movies in my life and SM3 was the second one.
1. You’re family.
2. You leave your junk laying around the house. (Doesn’t have anything to do with the telephone, but I had to say something.)
3. I don’t carry on long conversations when people call.
4. You do the same thing when I’m at your house.
5. Whatever else you can think of.
Stennie got it, I remember “Branded” very well. Watched that crappy thing every week. Best thing about it was the theme song.
Almost all the best theme songs were from 60’s TV. Here are some more
1.Wagon Train (Roll’n, Roll’n, Roll’n)
2. 77 Sunset Strip (*snap, *snap)
3. Dick Clark’s Bandstand boogie
4. The Rebel (Johnny Yuma was a rebel)
5. Get Smart
6. Happy Trails (to you)from Roy Rogers
7. It’s Howdy Doody Time!
8. The Mickey Mouse Club march
9. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? from Mr. Rogers
10. The Wild, Wild, West
Don’t forget Star Trek!
Loved your At the Movies segment. Save me the Isle seat for next time.
I can’t believe I almost forgot the greatest theme of all
Green Acres!
Green acres is the place to be
Farm livin’ is the life for me
Land spread’n out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan just give me that countryside
Wow – I totally missed the Rudy references on Earl. I thought that there was something going on with that cast – but it just didn’t come to me! I was too busy trying to imagine the smells, I guess!
Love the segue music. That’s some mellow stuff! I was wondering what took over my Hucklecast on the first one! I love it, though. Not complaining!
Holy cow – I had not heard about the judge and his pants. That is extremely unbelievable. He should be so terribly embarrassed!
M&Ms; Adams Family commercial – I like that as well.
I loved your your version of the A-Team theme! Ha!
Good show! Except, of course, the missing autoharp music! Stennie – I hope group guitar lesson #2 was fun!
Hey Duke, you are aware that there are lyrics to the original Star Trek theme? I can’t recall them, but I know they’re lame. Roddenberry wanted to make sure he’d get half the royalties for recordings of the theme so he wrote lyrics, but decided to not use them.
He was a visionary, all right! Dreaming up new ways to exploit! Wahoo! Sorry Alexander Courage!
I’m with Kellie with an “ie”—more autoharp music!
Topic:
What would you do be doing if television, motion pictures, and audio recording hadn’t been invented?
I’m trying to listen to Ep. 54 at work and one of my headphones is out, so I only hear Bet in my left ear. Now as fun as that may be, you sort of need to hear both parties to get the full tilt. Otherwise, it just sounds like Bet is talking to her inner voices.
I must get a new set of headphones!
