Minor correction: Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra weren’t married, they just had some awesome collaborations. A few great songs: Sugar Town, Summer Wine, Some Velvet Morning. His last album: Cake Or Death. Lee was awesome.
I’ll join in the Oscars game!
1934: I Am A Fugitive From A Chain Gang
1935: The Thin Man
1936: The Informer (Captain Blood was also awesome. Top Hat? feh.)
1937: They Call Me MISTER Deeds!
1938: Dead End
1939: Grand Illusion (but Robin Hood was up there)
1940: Stagecoach (but holy hell, that’s a great list of nominees. The only ones I haven’t seen are Mr. Chips and Of Mice And Men, but I did read the book.)
Oh, I’m with you on the Duggars. Not so much because they’re taking up too many resources, but I think there’s something pathological about that mother—if you look at the special, the older kids raise the younger ones. They actually seem like decent kids, too. BUT—the mother just seems to be like she gets off on being pregnant and having babies, rather than actually raising them and wanting to be with those children as individuals. Now heaven knows that we have too many little mini kings and queens out there (ooh—another podcastathon topic—what’s wrong with parents today with their kids? Who’s in charge there anyway?), but for heavens sake, doesn’t each child deserve to be a little special for a little bit? The thing I found the most horrifying is when poor little Jennifer was born, the mother said within half an hour “I can’t wait for the next one.” Good gravy lady, maybe think about this one!
And no comment on the Glennlist. My suggestion, is go to online reading only – I did a long time ago. I checked in there yesterday for the first time in years, for grins. It never changes. And amazingly, Mom and I didn’t manage to reach out to all those people looking to meet up at Wolf Trap, and who were whining about paying $100 extra for a ‘meet and greet’ and that they weren’t kowtowed to enough. When they’ve met Glenn a billion times for free, and really blather on about nothing and he’s actually quite lovely and is nothing but gracious to this twaddle. We did keep our eyes peeled for the usual cast of DC-area characters, to make sure we knew where they were. I’ll let you fill in the blanks as to whether we were looking to say hi, or to be where they weren’t. We saw a bunch from one group, and none of the ones from the other. Although I found out today one of my bosses had been seated about 10 rows behind me.
I was planning on doing this for the podcastathon, to give you an activity in the late hours of the night, but I forgot all about it and only remembered Sunday morning, well after you were all done. So since it’s your week off, this’ll give everybody something to do until then.
Name these #1 songs, in order by year:
