Hucklebug, Episode 82: A Hucklebug Grizzly Man Christmas! This episode is largely an experiment to see if we could get an episode out of watching a movie together and discussing it while watching. The answer to that question is mostly “not really.” But along the way, we do get in a few shout-outs, some thank you’s for Christmas presents, and a few other things here and there. Note: if you haven’t seen Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog, most of this episode will not make sense.

This has been great fun to listen to you watch it, and as a double bonus, now I don’t feel like I have to actually watch it myself.
See, Treadwell would have saved himself a lot of trouble if he’d just learned this one song when he was a kid. It’s the Monkey’s favorite song—if I sing it to him, he quiets right down.

Really, the Christmas card was just from a collection of black and white photos from Central Park in the winter. I didn’t really think much about them. I think the ones of the kiddies sledding down the hill were gone by the time I got to the S’s in my address book. Geez, sorry.
This was the drunk show, right?
Funny commentary. My favorite character in Grizzly Man was the dramatic coroner. I loved the look away at the director: “Was that good?” And for the record, I thought that Treadwell was a mess of a guy, who was willfully ignorant and ended up endangering bears in that park by acclimating them to humans.
Wasn’t the Discovery Channel one of the producers of the documentary? I wonder if they weren’t one of the major purchasers of his bear footage when he was alive. (I’ve seen that “fighting bear” footage, I’m sure, in some of their promos.)
OH goodness, no, I haven’t seen this movie. But I’m listening for any possible nuggets of something else I might understand. Like Chuck Woolery with the Odor Eaters. That was funny – especially the giggle that came with the disclosure.
Bald men – I’ve dated more than one. I don’t know if I find them sexier than ones with hair, but I guess I don’t find them unsexy.
I didn’t have a chance to comment last week, so I’ll put my vote in now: I think Stennie will be the one to swear in the No Swearing Hucklebug.
Floaty Hindu Thing? So Grizzly Man is a comedy?
Are we supposed to be telling you our favorite movie of 2007? I have an answer, in any case. It’s Darjeeling Limited. Fabulous stuff.
Happy New Year to the two of you!
Love,
Dishy
Oh, and I re-listened to the podcast yesterday on a loooooong-ass drive to Corvallis, and heard some parts that I missed the first time through. So woo hoo for your dad! Way to go, Bet’s Dad!
Ooh, and a shout-out for FAST, CHEAP AND OUT OF CONTROL! Yes! My favorite! (I just submitted another comment and I fear it was lost… I’ll wait a second before I panic and rewrite it.)
I’m thinking that watching the movie at the same time while listening to you guys would have been much more fun. Still, you guys are always fun to listen to—I think I might just try this one again when I have the chance to netflix Grizzly Man.
