The RIP that got me this week was Suzanne Pleshette. That had way more impact than Heath Ledger, who I don’t think I could pick out of a lineup.
And I get the heebie-jeebies with Romney, too. He’s all hair and teeth. I also have a similar reaction to Edwards, in the interest of equal opportunity. In theory I hate Huckabee’s policies more, but Romney is creepy. However, unlike you, Stennie, I get a little creeped out by McCain, too.
Funniest news today—Kucinich dropped out. Wow—and here I was thinking he had a chance… I really don’t understand why some of these no hopers run and why they stay in so long.
Hmm, celebrities who smell. Johnny Depp, I think. Courtney Love. Mickey Rourke, definitely.
I’ll let Michelle deal with the smoking thing. I’m sorry, but never give up on trying to quit. However, I can also do the tough love thing, if you want. Ahem (clearing throat, putting on drill sergeant’s hat) It NOT okay you messed up. You are Weak! Drop and give me 50!
Singin’ in the Rain! West Side Story! Bye, Bye, Birdie! (you should have made the musical game for audience participation—I could have had a fair shot at this one—at some point or another I’ve been in most of these and seen the rest.) South Pacific, at least the movie version, would have been much better if it was cast differently. The movie version is dull, dull, dull. I also didn’t realize that Adelaide’s Lament has the same pattern as Something Wonderful from Oliver. (Think “this is man who thinks with his heart, his heart is not always wise…..”)
Catch you next week, inshallah, although from what the doctor told me today, there’s a good chance I’m going to be staring at the Monkey wondering what the hell I’m supposed to do with him now…
18 minutes before the first shout-out? That’s it—I want to speak to your manager.
The excuse for my exuberance about your A-game cussing? I’ve got a 3-year-old who repeats everything I say. So, my silenced potty mouth lives vicariously through you two.
TAR Odiousness: I don’t count Rob/Amber, because like Flo/Zach, I really only see ONE odious member. Count me among those that hated Colin/Christie but loved to watch them fight. I also hated to watch Tara/Wil (Season 2). They sucked ass like pros.
Ledger: Recently saw him in I’M NOT THERE. He seemed to have turned a corner in respectability, but was overshadowed by Cate Blanchett’s masterwork. Sad for the loss, mostly for the survivors. I also don’t envy director Christopher Nolan who might be holding Ledger’s final film performance in the next Batman flick. It won’t hurt sales, but he’s got a huge responsibility to give Ledger a proper finale.
Stennie, I was gearing up for a fight about women in 70s films (sporting a NOW button, even), but then I looked at the nominee lists. By God, you’re right. There are so few memorable female roles throughout the decade.
1976 Supp. Actresses is a fantastic example of the hypocrisy: Beatrice Straight for NETWORK (in the movie for ONE SCENE) beat out Jane Alexander, ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN (also one scene?), Jodie Foster, TAXI DRIVER (child AND prostitute) and Piper Laurie, CARRIE (overbearing mother AND religious nut). I haven’t seen VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED for which Lee Grant was also nominated, but I can’t imagine she racked up much screen time while sharing it with a cast like this.
Forgive me while I cover my crotch and slink away.
I’m with Lily, the big RIP of the week was Suzanne Pleshette. Ah, the times we spent at Chasen’s…
Btw, I was on bennies when I wrote that comment last week, so take it as you will.
MORE KAZOOS, DAMMIT!

So, Bet, did you get a Flip?

Yes… sweet city woman is righty-o!
A Knight’s tale is a very clever movie. You should give it a Sunday morning viewing.
And BET.. I am 46!
Stenne, we cancelled Sunday lunch because of the rain, but you never wrote back so I didn’t know if you could make it.
