Hucklebug, Episode 100: RIP Eight Belles, shout-outs, thoughts on 100th episode, some of our favorite past topics, notes on tonight’s bumper music, Hucklebug Trivia Quiz, clip show.
Ooh—quiz! Let’s see how many of these I can get in before His Majesty wakes up. And I’m sure while he’s unable to be a guest star right now, I bet we can hook up Nick-the-child-not-the-cancer for the 200th show. You might not get much more than “gah!” but you’ll get something. I do, however, blame the poor showing below on Nick-the-child-not-the-cancer, as Mommy’s brain is fried.
1. Crap. Forgot this one, and it’s my topic.
2. This is a fifty-fifty, no? I’m going with Bet. And I’m sure it was very politely phrased when it came up initially. “Not wanting to be mean or anything, BUT….”
3. Alan F. Arkin, any time Bet “haytes” something, and going to see the Hackensaw Boys.
4. I’ll guess around episode 7.
5. Crap, you mentioned this a few weeks ago. I don’t think it’s Blazing Saddles, but I’ll guess that.
6. George Martin.
7. The Inlaws and Grizzly Man.
8. The Chairman of the Board, Brian Setzer and his Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney.
9. No Cloo. (Is there a phone ringing, so can I pick it up?)
10. A remote and batteries.
He’s up. Gotta go.
This is one for the vaults. The stinger alone is worth multiple listens. Congratulations on 100 ~ a standing O!
Breaking Away: Late to the party, but check. I briefly resided in Indiana, and viewing this movie and Hoosiers are new resident state law. My sister-in-law attended IU, and actually raced in the female Little 500.
Quiz: Not a chance. As the resident newbie/Cousin Oliver, I only know the Grizzly Man one, which is half of one question. I’ll take an incomplete.
Clip show:
-Now I know why I Hayte Green Acres is so resonant, as Bet’s passion comes shining through all artifice.
-Gosh, lots of folks have been guests of the show… nice to put voices with names. Great work, everyone.
-Thanks again for Carol of the Bells. It’s a small thing, but it worked for me.
Here’s to 100 more!
Congratulations on 100 shows. You and Dancing With the Stars! Any plans to do a film centered tango?
Great show… Great show!!!
BTW… for our lovely host Stennie who finds herself a bit linguistically challenged in pronouncing the name of my blog, here is a clip that will help with the pronunciation. Listen carefully.

p.s. you’ll notice that I do spell it with one R. Someone else already had the proper spelling.
What a delightful show! I’ll be listening to #101 during the 9-hour flight to Munich, so i ask you to be extra kind and give me some warning before you make me laugh so hard I shoot coffee out my nose, ok?
The musical selections were wonderful! I think you should make them available for download. I ::HEART:: the Stennie version of Our Amazing and Expanding Universe!
So here are my answers to the quiz – I promise that I do listen every week, but somehow my retention powers must not be as good as I thought. I’m going to get a very low score here:
1. I don’t remember
2. Mine, actually.
3. Either of you making fun of/impersonating each other; saying the Hucklebug funny, talking about the Hackensaw Boys, Alan F. Arkin, or Robbie Fulks.
4. The very first one, I think.
5. I don’t remember. I do know that I’ve never seen the movie.
6. George Harrison
7. The Inlaws, Grizzly Man
8. Frank Sinatra, Otis Redding, Louis Armstrong
9. It’s probably a movie quote.
10. Twisty ties and matches
* Sigh * Memories…
Looove the intro music!!
Oh my – cheating on Handel!!
stennie – nice Galaxy song!!
Quiz
1. Bad presents: Stennie – ?? Bet – picture of yourself in high school
2. Fuck Offs: Bet’s idea.
3. Hackensaw Boys, Alan F. Arkin, Bet: something like “I won’t talk
about this very long, but….”
4. Week two
5. Divisive Movie Parent Trap???
6. First RIP – ???
7. Two Movies – The In-Laws, ???
8. 3 artists – Freddie Fender, Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow
9. Why Bet not looking for an egg? Because Bet got lots of comments last week?
10. Batteries, coupons
No Cell Phone in the bathroom – reminded me of this guy this weekend
who was standing next to me and his companions speaking loudy into the
phone. It went like this, “So, you got the thing? That’s great news.
You are going to come on Saturday? Good. You are going to bring that
thing…” Then he hangs up and says to the people around him. “So,
he got the thing. That’s great news. He is going to come on
Saturday. Good. He will bring that thing…” C’mon – like we all
don’t already know that because you are yelling!!
