Here’s a topic for you – which Monkee would you do?
I loved hearing from the famous Dude! I probably would have gone to the funeral if I had been in CA – or at least I would have tried to get tickets. Hell. I missed the Obama rally, so I’d have to attend something important this year.
You guys totally blew it on the nose thing. Big nose? Adrien Brody!
As the Podcastathon approaches (I assume you’ll go silent next Friday night as a rest), a suggestion would be to remind us what we promised to get you for the Podcastathon—such as quizzes and the like.
Wow. Ticketbastard didn’t charge a fee for the Michael Jackson tickets? That’s a crock. People who actually wanted to go to that horror show should have had to pay, and those of us who want to see real entertainment shouldn’t have to subsidize them.
It is fascinating to see how much BRIEF ENCOUNTER has seeped into the British and American moviegoing consciousness. You not only have the British films, but you have a film like THE APARTMENT which was inspired by the film. I can’t think of many American film since 1970 that treat marriage and infidelity so honestly.
Since I was chosen to be the movie club nag, when will we be starting the Hucklebug movie club?
My niece Brianna has a question for Bet, “Do all of your hats spin around?” She doesn’t listen to the show, but I promised her I would ask the question.
In general, I couldn’t care less about the whole Michael Jackson thing, but I found Scotty Dude’s report interesting and insightful and nicely free of anything exploitative or unduly sentimental. Though I can’t quite agree with the notion that my youth—or his—is somehow pegged to MJ’s lifespan.
Hey, will you two be doing any moon-shot related material for the pod-cast-a-thon? Here’s an idea: Top 5 songs about the moon. Top 5 movies/TV shows about the space program or that have Moon in the title.
And you can always do reminiscences about the first moon landing or what you thought of the space program.
Sorry, I know I’m late again, but I’m trying to catch up before the podcastathon.
I think if we let the last administration off the hook and just ignore them, we can only expect to have a repeat from future leaders. Nixon got away with it and then we got Bush.
I think the law should be enforced at the highest levels more than the lowest, frankly.
“Too big to fail is too big.” I hear you, Sten, and agree whole-heartedly!! And that attitude makes you anti-extreme-capitalism. I’m the same way. The funny thing is, if you’re a really big company, the laws of financial physics suggest that you will crumble under your own weight. This time around, though, those businesses got propped up by our government, defying the laws of financial physics. 🙁
Great segment with Scotty-dude! Really enjoyed it, despite the fact that I’m not a fan of MJ coverage. I’m definitely with Mr. Middlebrow.
I am shocked that the tickets were free—unbelievable that in a time where the state of California is laying off people, cutting funding to things like *education* and *healthcare* and paying employees with IOUs, that LA is willing to do something like that for free. They should have charged the same amount as any other ticket to an event at Staples Center, or maybe even more, to help with the state’s economic mess. Talk about a revenue generator!! Sheesh!
OH yeah and real quick, last weekend there were guys up in the Bronx with tables set up outside the TGI Fridays and the Target selling RIP Michael Jackson merchandise—T-shirts, hats, etc. Seems pretty lame to me.
