  1. So good to have you two back. Balance has been restored to The Force.

Stennie’s story about the kitten reminded me of one of my all-time top five favorite Chuck Jones Merrie Melodies cartoons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcTniTyFcEA

Pixar fans will no doubt recall the homage to this in Monster’s, Inc.

The fix wasn’t in on 1930s Idol (we’re friends with the people running it, so if the fix was in, it would have turned out differently!) it was just an issue with the criteria where it didn’t seem to end up consistently followed.  That’s the ultimate explanation, in this humble observer’s opinion.

Bet, Jay did reply to your question! It was just technical stuff that held up the video editing process. But you can check out Episode 2 of “Jay TheCallinShow” now online here: http://thepal.us/a/jtcse02

It’s been a tough thing balancing the job hunt with working on multiple video projects with Jay so TheCallinShow was put aside for a couple weeks. This week it’s his clips on 12seconds.tv that are put aside so we’re finishing a bunch of other stuff—including a great documentary on Jay ThePal that went up over the weekend.  Watch “Who is Jay ThePal?” and find out, uh, who is Jay ThePal! http://thepal.us/a/WhoIsJayThePal

Regarding the MSNBC/Fox truce, yeah strangely, it’s only about Bill and Keith, not Hanity or Beck.  I hate everyone at Fox equally, actually.  They’re all hurting America (hey, they accuse everyone else of doing it, turnabout’s fair play, dammit!)

My favorite part of “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off” is the whole damn movie. One of my most treasured moments in my entire life was when my dad took me to see it in the theater when it first came out and we sat in his car laughing our asses off for 15 minutes—not even speaking—just laughing.

That movie is so good, I forget that people actually made it. It’s like apples, or grass.

“Great Escape” is one of my faves, too.  Doctor Who Nerdfact: the first ever male companion to the Doctor was in “Great Escape.” I don’t even remember if William Russell had a line, but he is definitely visible as one of the prisoners and is listed in IMBD as playing “Sorren” whomever that was. O_O

Stennie, congratulations on Boo’s normalness! Drugs really do work!! smile

    My Styx favorite is “Renegade”.

Hendrix is not for me, either, but I do like “All Along the Watchtower” as covered by Bear McCreary for Battlestar Galactica (the music is about all I still like about that show now that it’s over).

YAY! Welcome back, ladies!!  Please don’t go away again until after Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert come back!!

    Just cuz!

See what happens when you go away for a while? I leave a mega-comment!

Yes, I did fall asleep last week. There’s also a possibility I will fall asleep again tonight between posting this chat. It’s the way of the Boy.

I can’t help you on the Hendrix—he’s not my generation and he’s never inspired me to make and effort to learn much about it. I suspect guitarists love him because of the technical work he does, but it’s just not the kind of thing that I want to throw on and listen to. And while talented, those songs sound dated.

Does Chris Isaak have other songs than Wicked Game? I did not know that.

  4. Mike says:

Correction:  you’re the lame ones.  And I definitely wouldn’t be the treason guy.  I’d be the guy breaking the rules while helping his fellow man.  I’d be like Errol Flynn as Robin Hood.

Regarding John Hughes, Ferris Bueller is the only movie I’ll enjoy over and over.  Favorite scene: “That’s right, I’m Abe Froman.”

Styx – forget it.  You may as well have picked REO Speedwagon.

Jackson Browne – never really liked him, but I’ll go for JB ca. 82-83: Somebody’s Baby or Lawyer’s In Love.

Hendrix – now we’re talking my guys.  Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is my standard pick, but every once in a while I’ll take Little Wing.  Btw, it is The Wind Cries Mary.

Chris Isaak – Wicked Game is the standard, but I’d take Beautiful Homes instead.

  5. Best Hendrix: Purple Haze, if only because the man-cub’s first and middle names fit the metric foot perfectly. I’m able to rewrite the lyrics as a little homage in his honor, which includes whisker burns over the opening guitar riff and culminates with the words “‘scuse me while I kiss this guy!” and a raspberry on the belly. Gales of giddy laughter ensue.

FBDO is the apotheosis of the Hughes canon, no question. It has certainly aged much better than The Breakfast Club. “Do you have a kiss for Daddy?”

Styx: Renegade, no question. I thought I was so badass listening to that song.

  6. Marla j Bronstein says:

I just have to say that I met Chris Isaak way back when he was first getting famous. He was lovely….

and here is a reminder of the pre-pooper scooper..if it wasn’t so abusive, I might actually consider getting a dog just so I could have one..
