Hucklebug Episode 173: RIP Jean Simmons, Pernell Roberts, Howard Zinn & JD Salinger, shout-outs, movies (Bet: Trumbo; Stennie: In the Loop, Stripes, The Fall), highlights and lowlights, fuck-offs and you-rules, Top Five Favorite Dramatic TV Characters.
Music: “The Hucklebuck,” performed by Otis Redding, Lee Rocker, and Frank Sinatra.
I’m not finished listening yet – but I did just heard the fuck off for Activia, which reminded me of this:

The quality could be better, but you’ll get the idea.
Gene Simmons: when Gene dies, I’m sure Paul Stanley will have a way to cash in on it.
Johnny Got His Gun: It was finally released on home video last year. It’s pretty, uh, intense. Netflix has it.
Favorite Dramatic TV Characters including comedy-drama programs (or, as I like to call them, com-mas):
5. David Addison (as long as we keep it within the first 3-4 seasons)
4. Dr. Jennifer Melfi (she’s a looker, highly educated, and has a great accent)
3. Bones McCoy (given my stoic nature, picking the guy who easily flies off the handle is an odd choice, but he seems to be the only one who can regularly put Kirk in his place)
2. Lindsay Weir
1. Dr. Sam Beckett (the altruistic hero)
Okay, let me clarify something on Married with Children. I rarely watched it, but the characters were what I was trying to describe as “evil, saying whatever popped in their heads”. The show overall was meh. A better exemplar would have been Karen from Will and Grace, but I was trying to get the comment before you started to record so my thinking cap was not on too tight.. If I’d have more time to think I would have included “Cat” from Red Dwarf and yes, Miles, from Murphy Brown.
LOVE The Fall. The DVD shows that the little girl does not speak english, and has never been in anything. Most of her best reactions were accidental. Singh’s cinematography is beautiful (The Cell).
The Progressive woman may definitely fuck off.
Jam & Jerusalem played on BBCA as “Clatterford”. Dawn French, Joanna Lumley, and Jennifer Saunders. Bet, you’ll LOVE it. I think this may be my all time favorite brit-com.
In no particular order:
Any one on 6 Feet Under
Bailey on Grey’s Anatomy
House, mainly because I am going to be so much like him. Often I cut through the shit too much for my patients.
Bones on Bones
Damnit I forgot Big Pussy, and Carmella (especially when she stole the cash).
So even though I am not caught up on HB, i wanted to get this comment in. Not related to anything on the podcast for the past few weeks but hey, I have a brain tumor…deal with it.
I wanted to thank you for the shout outs and Fuck Off Normans that you have bestowed upon me in my absence over the past little while…but at the same time, I would like to offer this week’s You Rule to Norman as well..He/it had really made me pay attention to the fragility of life and health, and the importance of SELF CARE AND SELF MONITORING in the face of dumb ass doctors…as well as the amazing ablity of my friends and my community to rally when I need it the very very most.
I so appreciate you two, your friendship, your listening, your support and your love. I will be fine, if only because i have you two in my corner.
I’ll check back in ASAP, i promise.
love love love

ps I created a Carepages.com page so if you are so inclined to keep up on Feb 10, the day of Norman’s eviction, (ken is going to be posting the play by play) you can become a member if you are not already and get updates. the page is under my name (duh) MarlaJoySimonBronstein.
Spare the Progressive Insurance lady (I like her) and aim your wrath towards an actual deserving target, Jimmy Football:

They made about half a dozen ads featuring this guy. I must kill him.
