I definitely don’t get that Dewers ad. I do like scotch, though. I’ve had good scotch and bad scotch, though, so I worry, Bet, that you may have had only bad scotch. I’m far from an afficionado, however. When I have had good scotch, it’s usually been bought for me by someone else.
Here’s my list of top five Cohen Brothers movies:
5) Oh Brother
4) Big Lebowski
3) Blood Simple
2) Fargo
1) No Country
4 and 5 are pretty much tied as are 2 and 3. But 1? That is my favorite kind of film. I don’t even mean genre-wise–it’s competence porn. I love watching characters who actually have brains, who also use them regularly throughout the film. In fact, this film kind of set the bar too high for me to enjoy other films for this very reason. When ever I know exactly what a character is up to in a film I shrug and think about how I had no idea what Josh Brolin was up to in either the bed & breakfast or the motel rooms (in a good way).
That movie came out the same year as “There Will Be Blood” which, I think, feels like a Cohen Brothers movie and, if it were, would be tied for the top spot on my above list. I remember thinking those two films made movie going worth it that year. I watched them both twice in the theater. I think these are the only films I’ve seen more than once in the theater since college (not including the crapfest that was the Star Wars prequel trilogy–only because movies were cheaper back then and I am a glutton for punishment).
Anyway, it seems like I may be back listening for a bit! I was swamped in November with National Novel Writing Month which I did manage to do successfully. I hit 50,000 words a few days early and then reached “THE END” about fifteen minutes before midnight on November 30th with 66,458 words. Over all, I’m pretty pleased with it. Of course, I had to ignore almost everything else in my life to get it done, but it is done! Now, I’m slowly catching up on everything I had put aside last month and I’ll try to listen to the back-episodes of HB before my mom gets here on the 23rd. Might be tough though since it’s the holidays and wow, I’m tired just thinking about it…
I hope you guys have been enjoying the Jay ThePal videos I’ve been posting! It’s been fun doing them again!
Welp, great show, ladies!! Have a great one tonight!
