Kelly with a Y IS here in NYC and we hope to at least visit with her and help her replenish the calories she’ll burn while doing the marathon. If anything, a few $18 martinis will ease the pain.

The cat video was cute, but what was with that porn music?

Thanks for the plug for jay.thepal.us! Yep, Jay is back and has been posting videos almost every day. We were out of town last weekend so this week’s were late but you can catch compilation videos every weekend on Jay’s YouTube.

Regarding swear words on TV, I vaguely remember hearing about how Mr. Greenjeans (sp?) on Captain Kangaroo got in trouble for explaining that animals can get diarrhea if they are fed certain things. This got him in trouble. I remember, when I was working in animation, that we had a huge list of words we couldn’t say in any of our scripts, that weren’t even swear words. Like “dingleberry.” This was in the 90s. “Dingleberry” is only a word kids use!! I actually had to ask one of my bosses what a dingleberry even was. Other words (if I recall correctly) were words only adults would use and, as such, had no business being in the cartoons we were working on, anyway. I think tampon might have been one. But they were words like that. Another boss told me that she had gotten an email from the network that encouraged animators to always draw pants on characters. When she emailed back, explaining that one of our characters never wears pants, an email back from the network asked: “Well, can you see his penis?”

It’s either that Hollywood producers are all idiots or some of them are made stupid by the industry. Could go either way.

Bet, I share your concerns regarding the “Sherman and Peabody” movie. It’s CG which seems to really excludes the chance that it will capture the spirit of the original.

Sten, I could have sworn you called it “Cash Crotch.” I think I’m becoming hard of hearing.

On a side note, Sten, have you watched “Star Trek Continues”? It’s a period-accurate fan made series that picks up where the original Trek stopped–sets, costumes, etc, are just like the original. startrekcontinues.com is the site, I believe. I usually don’t go for fan films, but this one is pretty faithful. I wish these guys were in charge of making the JJ Abrams Trek movies. They’d bomb in the box office because apparently nobody actually wants to see a thoughtful(ish) character-driven philosophical scifi story, but they’d be more fun and more true to the original Trek.

Thank goodness for the Facebook reminder – I nearly forgot to leave a comment.

Stenns – it was wonderful to hear you sing the billboard song- I hadn’t heard it in a long time, and I ended up singing with you. It was fun! Thank you for making my commute suck less.

Yes, Miss Mary Mack was a hand clapping song, as is the playmate song. I know a bunch of those – or I did. I was one of those girls. I was very good and knew all the moves.

Being so close to 10 EST, I thought I’d hurry up and post one comment (the above one) quickly to make sure I got one in on time.

Good luck to Kelly and the marathon! Wooot!

Ouzo – no. I didn’t drink any. I don’t like it. However, they have a wonderful little drink called Metaxa. Look it up. Try it. It is really fantastic.

I thought of another song that both of you are sure to know: Charlie of the MTA.

Let me tell you the story
    Of a man named Charlie
On a tragic and fateful day
He put ten cents in his pocket,
    Kissed his wife and family
Went to ride on the MTA

    Charlie handed in his dime
    At the Kendall Square Station
And he changed for Jamaica Plain
When he got there the conductor told him,
    ‘One more nickel.’
Charlie could not get off that train.

    Did he ever return,
    No he never returned
And his fate is still unknown
    He may ride forever
    ‘neath the streets of Boston
He’s the man who never returned.

    Now all night long
    Charlie rides through the tunnels
Saying, ‘What will become of me?
How can I afford to see
    My sister in Chelsea
    Or my cousin in Roxbury?’

    Charlie’s wife goes down
    To the Scollay Square station
Every day at quarter past two
    And through the open window
    She hands Charlie a sandwich
As the train comes rumblin’ through.

There is more to this song, and I don’t remember it. However, as I typed this out, I realized that this is some kind of political or union song against the MTA. The shame using hapless children like us to get their word out!

As a kid, some things really bothered me about this song. For example, why did they let him on the train if he didn’t have enough money, and why was he stuck on it? And when his wife was handing off the sandwich, why didn’t she give him a nickel along with it?

Also, Betster, I’m really sorry that Mr. M threw his own recital, and that you had to be part of that.

Is there time for one more? I just now watched the videos – and although I’m sorry the big kitties are in cages, I squeed at how cute they are rolling around in catnip just like regular old kitties!

And Howard’s song – I want to learn that by heart. Such a good show…

Ok. I’m done now. Feel free to continue on recording the show.
