I tried searching for that vaginal mesh commercial on YouTube, but there are too many vaginal mesh-related videos on there (I’m both surprised and not), including videos of the actual procedure! >_< Any chance you guys could link to the one you're referring to?
I have no movie mashups for you. I'm sorry. I'll try to think of some for you in late June. The first half of 2013 has been way too hectic for me.
I remember when people didn't use zip codes, too. I think I remember the commercials, also–though I don't remember the details. The mailbox spitting the letters back out rings a vague bell, but I might be remembering Candid Camera. I LOVED that show.
Bet, you complained about people arriving late to your Lyle concert–this reminded me of the Broadway show "Once" which I saw a few weeks ago. We got to the theater about 15 minutes before the show was supposed to start to find many empty seats, the curtain open and a bunch of people on stage. Some of the people on stage were jamming with musical instruments, playing songs they explained were from their past, while most of the people were standing around with drinks. After about 15-20 minutes, most of the people left the stage, leaving behind about 10, most of them with musical instruments. Those people continued playing those songs they knew so well. Then one guy steps forward and starts playing his new song. Suddenly, I realized the *actual* show had started.
At intermission, I was able to find out what the heck had happened–if you get to the theater early, you can join the cast on stage, pre-show, and enjoy a drink. It turns out the bar that is part of the set, is a real functioning bar and one of the cast members is the bartender. This creates this amazingly free and relaxed atmosphere. It sets the show up so it feels like you're watching the events of the show as a live spectator of real people, as opposed to a theater-goer, if that makes any sense. It was a really incredible experience! And to bring this back around, starting the show this way makes folks who show up late feel really stupid. Hell, I felt really stupid and I wasn't late for the show, just too late to hang with the actors on stage. So if anyone wants to come see "Once" on Broadway, be sure to show up early.
That's it from me for this week and for a while, most likely. I'm leaving for the final cruise (mine and Siskita's) on the day you'll be recording next, I think. Aaaand we won't get back to NYC until mid-June. So, we may not be able to leave comments before then. We'll see. The final cruise is 2 weeks across the Atlantic to Barcelona and then we will spend a couple weeks in Europe before coming back. So, it's going to be super exciting. I'm sure we'll both be posting photos and videos as we are able, but it might be hard for us to keep up with the HB.
Oh and I hope this comment is Pete-esque enough for you! π I am honored to have an episode of the Hucklebug named after me(-ish) as well as an entry in the Hucklebug glossary of terms.
Word origins (if you haven’t already done these): Dressed to the Nines and White Elephant Gifts
Bet – so glad you enjoyed the concert – sounds like great fun.
Recording session – And Sarah Beth came in town – did she bring her little boy?? So glad you got to have that time with SKB gang!!
Stennie – I hope you can really get that bow tie – I can really picture Lincoln with it! We’ve been without a cat for 4 years – I’m really ready for a new one. Did you see The Middle episode with Brick & Axl acting out Bond movies with the 2 kittens and rabbit – hilarious!!
Dishy, we totally snap on MOSTLY MARTHA (Bella Marta). It’s one of my all-time favorite food movies; plus it’s got a strong personal appeal for me since German and Italian are the two “foreign” cultures that have influenced my life the most.
I’m in general ageeance with you on your best / worst song choices, but I have to say you screwed the pooch on Kenny Rogers. His best song is “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” a pleasure for which no disclaimer of guilt need ever be made.

Am not in the possession of a HB Kazee, just sayin’…
Also wanted to say thanks for answering my question about Italian Scots. In response to the note of winking derision in Stennie’s voice during that bit, let me just say that I chose that question b/c I figured it would be somewhat interesting for you, based on your well documented appreciation for Mssrs. Iannucci, Capaldi, and Nutini. I wouldn’t ask you to look up random stuff about which you could t care less.
Do you agree with me? The Office finale was near perfect and the greatest finale of all-time!
BTW: It’s been awhile, but I’m back. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the greatest summer for modern music, 1983.
“put on your red shoes and dance the blues”
PLUS: I’m super excited about the Arrested Development return on Netflix.
Remember, there’s always money in the banana stand.
Finally, REM released the 30th Anniversary of Green with a live concert at Greensboro added to the deluxe version. So disappointed that REM stopped doing General Admission concerts after 1986….
