Just catching up on past eps this week after a truly crazy December. Thanks so much for doing the downer episode–seriously, I think it helps to face the depressing stuff and march through it with the help of friends and positive thoughts. The past month has been a roller coaster. I drew my favorite drawing of the year the day after my step-dad passed. Being alone for both events sucked, of course, and then I get on a cruise ship truly jammed with people who have the Disney Kool-Aid flowing through their veins and because of it, managed to actually feel a lot better about things (which I do feel a little guilty about).

One thing that surprised me was that I kind of got over my irrational distaste of costumed characters. I have proof here: http://thepete.com/new-years-resolution-1-get-over-irrational-fear-of-costumed-characters-done-disney-magic-goofy-stillnotsureaboutpooh-pic/ I think, getting to know the people inside the costumes helped a lot–especially this one guy Alfred who is the coolest guy–he’s 19 and very much interested in writing fantasy and poetry. He comes across as super chill and zen about everything but when he gets out on stage or into one of these costumes he just inhabits the character–he IS Goofy. Knowing all this somehow helped me be relaxed around him, hence the pic at that URL above. I also realized these costumes are basically like puppets. Not as articulated but still a fictional extension of the performer’s body. Thinking of it that way made me realize just how irrational my distaste for them was.

Now I’m determined to get a picture with every character on the ship!!

Anyway, thanks for the RIP for my step-dad at the top of ep 300. I really appreciated that. Bet so sorry to hear about Granny. Positive thoughts! And Sten, condolences again for Buster. So glad 2012 has fucked off.

Thanks for the Hello Skully mention, too! Always positive and cheerful, Skully-Chan is a little girl who doesn’t let death stop her from being cute. Skully-Chan T-shirts and other merch are available at http://hello-skully.com I’m going to build a real website for Skully-Chan when I have a spare moment. Right now it’s just a CafePress store.

Sten, I think you’re thinking about Heckle & Jeckle, which, I believe, were characters from Terry Toons, a small animation house that got swallowed up by Hanna Barbera (the other HB). But they weren’t rodents, they were crows. I’ve always assumed Chip and Dale were rip-offs of H&J.

And don’t expect too many comments from Siskita as the Internet situation on the boat suuuuucks. It’s like it’s 1995 in Internet terms. The connection is super slow and super expensive (and she gets much cheaper rates than the passengers). So, when you hear from Siskita, do as I do AND CHERISH IT!! Ok, maybe you don’t need to go that far…

I LOVED your reviews of those bad TV commercials. Vaginal patches? Unpleasantries in a hospital? How desperate they’ve become. >_< Antenna TV sounds awesome though–I wish they had a mobile app that streamed their programs. Maybe I should see if they've got a Roku channel–but I've barely turned on the TV since Sierra left. I watch everything on a tablet.

My highlight of the year is probably drawing 366 drawings. A close second is going on the cruise and spending NYE with Sierra.

Sten, didn't I tell you guys in a comment about how the NY DMV was wicked fast? Could it be that all DMVs are becoming more efficient?

    On to #301!

I also feel that it's a little strange when people mourn the victims of massacres when people (including children) die every day from guns and other things and don't mourn for them, too. I feel like it's more about dealing with sudden shock of the act, than the actual loss of life. Honestly, cancer kills waaaay more people than gun violence, as I may have mentioned before. How about we ban cancer? Where's the outcry for "cancer control" laws?

Bet, that is hilarious that the nice lady prayed over your shipment. Sooo funny. The creator of the universe helped you get your stuff. He is Truly Awesome.

Sten, you should never take a Disney cruise. EVERY EMPLOYEE IS NICE. And what's worse (or best?) is that IT SPREADS. About halfway through the cruise, I started noticing EVEN PASSENGERS BEING NICE TO ME. At first I thought it was really off-putting, but after a bit I just gave in and started being nice in return. I even LIKED it!! I think I'm going to have to turn in my United Cycnics of America card. Maybe Walt Disney was onto something?!?

Hey, I kept it pretty short considering this was a comment that covered 3 eps.

OH and HAPPY NEW YEAR LADIES AND FELLOW-HUCKLEBUG LISTENERS! 2013 had better be a better year, DAMMIT.

Totally embarrassed about the Argo comment. Went back to archives and saw that Bet reviewed it October 28. Now I will have to go back and listen to her review again; NOW it will get my attention. I’m going to go crawl under a rock now.

Have a good show, y’all. This is one of those nights when I wish we were all together, just hanging out and watching the two of you do a live show. Way to carry on, Bet!
