Wow! First? Geewhiz.
Congratulations and thank you for episode 300! It really makes my week to hear you ladies.
So. My job. First off, thanks for mentioning it, even though I didn’t post it on the comments. I start the job 1/7. I did say on FB that I’d post details after I’d actually started, but I can tell you. I’m AVP and Manager of Business Communicators for a growing bank. I’m part of a team that includes people in Cleveland and Pittsburgh, and will have to make several trips a year to these hotspots. I suspect I’ll be in Cleveland more, since that’s where my boss works.
Ok, enough about me. Next comment will actually be about the show.
Hey – I get Antennae TV! It isn’t just for cable. And I love it. That having been said, I share your disgust on the vaginal mesh commercial. GROSS. They show it all the fucking time!
Betster- my hands are perpetually on the monitor, and your parent’s are not often far from my mind. I’m also here for you in any event. XO
My highlight of 2012: Getting what seems to be an awesome job!
My lowlight of 2012: The month of January when the nervous breakdown occurred.
You Rule of the Year: Well, Bet and Stennie, of course. But also the people responsible for firing HFC.
FUCK OFF of the year: Everyone responsible for the more than 500 shooting deaths in Chicago, and of course, every sicko who thinks that shooting everyone around is a great idea.
Congrats again on #300! Thanks for the update on Granny. Very sorry about Buster.
We had a very low key Christmas so went to the movies. In the parking lot, a woman talking on her cell phone pulled out in front of us, stopped and then backed in to Janet’s car, despite the fact that I was laying on the horn. Merry Christmas to you, too, lady. Hang up and drive! We saw “Parental Guidance” with Billy Crystal and Bette Midler. It’s okay. The highlight is probably a toss-up between a duet those two sing and the real photos they run with the closing credits.
We saw Les Miserables on New Year’s Day and thought it was great. Having seen it three times on stage didn’t matter; the movie is worth seeing. Tomorrow we are going to see Argo. Have you heard of it?
Did anyone see “Men Who Swim” on Independent Lens this week? It is about a men’s synchronized swimming team in Sweden — partly in English, partly with sub-titles. If you watch it, keep watching past the closing credits because the play some additional footage and bring up the one thing we are all wondering about. You’ll see what I mean if you watch it.
I’ve been trying to think of some This or Thats for you all. You’ve probably done these but if not, Vienna sausages or potted meat? Fried or scrambled? F-troop or MASH? Ballet or opera? Coke/Diet Coke or Pepsi/Diet Pepsi? Flowers or chocolate?
Highlight of the Year: two weeks in London for the Olympics
Lowlight of the Year: shootings (my boss’s son being murdered, Aurora theater and Sandy Hook)
You Rule of the Year: Obama re-election
F/O of the Year: our next door neighbors who don’t give a crap about their two dogs; maybe not the worst thing in the world, but it is something that I have to deal with every single day. (And sadly, now there is only one dog.)
Thing-That-Doesn’t-Fit of the Year: After biting my fingernails my entire life, this year I finally stopped that disgusting habit.
Happy New Year!
Highlight of the Year: London 2012 Olympics
Lowlight of the Year: Ralph White retired after 32 years with the City of Richmond Parks & Recreation — single-handedly promoted and improved the James River Park System. Feted by the people who use the trails in the parks but not the City. Boo!
You Rule of the Year: Great Britain for the Jubilee, the Olympics, the Paralympics, the torch relay and the arts Festival.
F/O of the Year: A tie between: 1) Wayne LaPierre, the NRA and guns and 2) Westboro Baptist Church.
CONGRATULATIONS on 300 episodes. Such a feat. And you’re just getting warmed up, I know it. (Disappointed that you didn’t shout, in your best Gerard Butler growl, “This! Is! HUCKLEBUG!” and kick a random Internet commenter asshat down a well.) Still, in all, a great achievement.
I’m so pleased and proud that OSS 117, Cairo: Nest of Spies is your favorite film of 2012. I like to fancy myself a pop-culture concierge, and like Jeeves, I endeavor to give satisfaction.
Some great (and overlooked) opening rif(f/t)s:
Strawberry Letter 23 – The Brothers Johnson

Found Out About You – Gin Blossoms (also a contender for perfect pop song)

Play That Funky Music – Wild Cherry (this is not only my all-time favorite opening rift, it’s also my current ringtone)

Finally, I’ve been working on a li’l sump’n sump’n to honor your milestone, but I’ve had a few technical hurdles to overcome. I can pretty confidently say that it will rock.
