The microphones sound beautiful!!!! They make you both sound like you’re in the same room, which is great.
“Wilfred” ALSO stars Fiona Gubelmann (she plays Wilfred’s owner and next door neighbor of Wood’s character), who is a friend of mine from my Los Angeles acting class for 5 years 🙂 We were very excited for her for booking such a big show. Glad you gave it two thumbs up!
Morris was a DIVA cat!!!
How did Sandy treat everyone and everyone’s friends/family circle? Pete was here in Toronto with me, and had to spend an extra two days longer than expected. But we were pleasantly surprised that La Guardia Airport and some limited subway/bus lines opened up by Wednesday, so he’s back and taking care of Zaphod. Hope all Hucklebuggers and their family were OK!
Trump is a fucking clown. I doubt Obama will take you up on your $500 offer, Stennie, but I’m sure he mirrors your thoughts internally regarding Trump.
Re: Felix – I was in the middle of a Safety-on-the-seas class for Disney, but I had the jump live on my iPhone with the sound down. It was thrilling to watch and I love modern tech and wifi!!!
Apparently, Cindy and Prince Charming’s Wedding Day is a “red letter day”, according to Disney, which is why I asked. 🙂 I guess marking Adulterers with a big red letter is also an Old-Timey Christian practice too…(that’s a Crucible reference).
Yiddish is the language, Jewish is the culture/race/religion.
Moby Dick quote: “There she blows!–there she blows! A hump like a snow-hill! It is Moby Dick!”
Enjoyed these, ladies!
And Bet, Fairy Godmother has whisked something to you, care of the Post Office Fairy. Have a great break and I’ll hear you soon after the 9th!
Ward has the hots for Bet. Definitely.
I figured that was the origin of “breakfast”. It just makes sense, really. But I wonder if the fast that was broken by the original users of this word was possibly a religious-based fast. Can Jewish people eat during the Sabbath? Maybe that’s the origin, um, originally?
Definitely enjoyed the phrase origins, though I have to say I am dubious regarding the explanation of “the devil to pay”. I’ve never heard of a part of the boat referred to as “the devil” nor have I heard of caulking being called “pay.” It’s definitely possible, but even if it was, it just seems weird that that would some how morph into what it actually sounds like it means. To modern ears. I found two sources that suggest it may also refer to the whole “Faustian bargain” thing. You know where you sell your soul to the Devil or whatever, but if you try to screw the Devil over, you’ll end up paying him anyway. Seems more logical to assume the shorter path. Then again, one thing I’ve learned from watching all 9 seasons of that QI show Sierra and I have mentioned in the past is that sometimes phrases, beliefs and even facts that are utterly part of the common culture/knowledge can often be wrong. Like how you’re supposed to cure hyperventilation by exhaling into a paper bag. Supposedly that doesn’t help at all. Then there’s that rule “i before e, except after c.” There are more exceptions to the rule that examples that follow it. Aaaanyway, sorry if I’m getting lecturey… just saying that even stuff we have taken for granted our entire life can be proven inaccurate or false.
As for my Sandy story, as Siskita said in her comment, I got stuck in Toronto for an extra few days (I moved the flight forward a day only to have it cancelled) but did manage to fly home on Thursday. Managed to wander around lower Manhattan Friday afternoon before it got power back and actually found it very unnerving once the sun set. You never know how much street lights help until they stop. And just in time for this nor’easter that is dumping snow on us, I’ve gotten a cold. But it’s nothing compared to what some folks out in Breezy Point, Queens and down in Atlantic City are dealing with. I feel so lucky to be where I am (and warm).
Anyway, shutting up now!
Oh and YAY OBAMA! (Sure would be nice if he could stop with the drone war, though. It’s getting almost as little news coverage as our war in Afghanistan.)
The Ps and Qs relates to printing. (Believe it or not, I’m so old that I spent a year learning how to print using lead type and a composing stick in high school.)
“Minding your Ps and Qs” related to how easy it was to put the wrong lower-case letter in its proper place in the type case when distributing the type after printing. (Especially easy because the letters are reversed and upside down when they’re facing you in the composing stick and the press frame.)
Hooker was one of first of several Northern generals during the civil war who commanded the Army of the Potomac. “Fighting Joe Hooker.” Incompetent.
“Devil to pay”: You were close, Bet. The “devil” is the joint running between the horizontal decking and the vertical sides of the ship. It had to be “payed” (caulked) with oakum (a combination of tar and rope yarn). It wasn’t the gook that was “pay,” but the act of caulking the seam.
“Thar she blows” goes ‘way farther back than Moby Dick. Other common shouts were, “She blows, she blows!,” “Blows, blows!” and many variations.
Cheers.
I am a week behind. Get over it…
BTW there is an IKEA (or Icrappa) because most of the stuff is just Swedish clutter (no matter how much you say it’s organizational….) in BC…and it is HEEEEUDGE.
I didn’t know Kelly was a theatre person? Actor/director? Come up here an play?? See Krizzer’s and my shows in February….
Has anyone out there seen Cosmopolis? On purpose? Worst thing I ever fast forwarded through…I can’t go see Argo because it’s playing at Regal, and that’s against my religion…maybe in Mt. Vernon or Vancouver…
I encouraged my cousins and their boys (9 and 11) to see Moonrise Kingdom. They HAAATED it..have you seen that? It was my third time… ’nuff said…
Stennie, didn’t you get a parking ticket once when I was visiting you??

Do you know the genesis of
OVER A BARREL? one explanation I read (many years ago) has to do with when the reven-ooers came, and the guys with the stills hid behind their barrels of hooch with rifles drawn, the other is just having your target in your sight of the barrel of your gun…or something like that..
Your move is more like when Lucy and Ricky moved to California…without the chickens…Diane left Cheers, Laverne and Shirley were cancelled…
Welcome home Stennie!!! I can’t wait for “guests in the Studio!”
and last but not least….here it is “in the Jewish”

Yi-Shar’ Ko’-Ach (the throat clearing ch)
Hello! It’s been a while since I have listened and commented — so long that one of you could have moved and I wouldn’t have known it.
I went to Bluefield last weekend to see my Dad and was unable to visit with Bet but I downloaded four episodes on my iPad and listened to them on the drive. It was like the two of you were in the truck with me so that was cool. The funny thing was I kept hitting my UP volume button on my steering wheel, forgetting I was listening via the iPad. I have two more episodes to hear before I will be caught up so I won’t comment on any of the older shows.
Does anyone watch Homeland on Showtime or can you get the first season on NetFlix, etc.? We started watching it the day of the evening Emmy broadcast because it had received so many nominations and then when they won so many awards, we knew why. Claire Daines (Carrie Mathison) and Damian Lewis (Nicholas Brody) are absolutely brilliant in this show and then throw in Mandy Patinkin (Saul Berenson) with other supporting cast who are good, too. I don’t normally like psychological thrillers but this one is calm enough that I don’t have to leave the room or hide my eyes during the stressful times. Also, I know we get tried to all the TV crime dramas doing their own take on terrorists, etc. but this show is complex yet still easy to follow. However, it will freak your freak, I’m telling you. We absolutely love it — it is our drug! We watched all the episodes of the first season in a week and now we have to wait a week between each episode! So if you don’t watch it, you should try it out….but from the beginning. You have to see all episodes, in order, to understand it.
Sorry about the typo in paragraph three and for teasing you that you have another comment! That sentence should say: “Also, I know we get tired of all the TV crime dramas…….”
Happy first Hucklebug from your new location! Well, from Stennie’s new location..
I had a bunch of sayings I wanted to ask you to look in to, but somehow I’ve forgotten them all. I need to learn to write things down!
