Fun fact–when Adam Savage joined Twitter, one of his first user icons was his polished turd. I don’t know when the polishing turd myth was busted on Mythbusters, but here it is on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiJ9fy1qSFI

Bet, Crossroads is Karl Rove’s PAC. His super-PAC (a PAC that doesn’t have to disclose the names of its donors) is Crossroads GPS. I know this thanks to watching Stennie’s husband, who explained at length about PACs and Super-PACs on his show. My favorite bit was when he thanked a number of interestingly named donors by name on the air. The list included one Munchma Koochie.

It’s debatable as to whether tripping that girl was the worst thing I’ve done, depending on one’s priorities, but it’s my biggest regret, I think. This wasn’t just that my foot was sticking out as she tripped over it. I saw her running through the door that I was holding open. I thought “Hey, if I trip her, she’ll fall–it’ll be hilarious!” Yeah, it wasn’t. The point is, I knew it would hurt her. I knew it was wrong and for some stupid reason I thought I could get away with it. Which I didn’t. I had detention and had to apologize to her face. I moved to New Jersey a year later so, I never had to deal with her again, but my conscience still won’t let me forget it.

YAY FOR BUSTER!!! That’s amazing–I’ve never heard of a pet’s cancer going into remission. That’s great!

I don’t blame you, Sten, for being sick of the whole politics thing for four years, but I’ve cut so much of the mainstream media out of my life it hasn’t bothered me *that* much. What I do allow into my brain is stuff like the NYT, Reuters and AP stuff, so it’s not overtly politically charged. Even then, when they report on the shit Republicans have said and done, the GOPers come across like bitter little children. In a way, it’s like Monicagate all over again. That’s a great catch on the $90 billion thing with Romney, too. But I kinda feel like both of them were pulling shit like that. Since I don’t have time to Google stuff while watching, I just assumed any time either of them mentioned numbers that they were lying.

Alas, I’m stupidly listening to the HB on a Tuesday, which is the busiest day of my week due to Japanese class being on Tuesday. So this is going to be it for me this week. I think it’s long enough, though! πŸ™‚

One last question–either of you ladies watching “Copper” on BBC America? It’s a cop show that takes place in 1864. Siskita and I dig it.

    Yay BUSTER!!!!

I’ve found myself saying “Adors” instead of “Adorable,” and I want to kick myself each time…where the hell did I get that?!?!

    Fuckburgers is good too…

Happy that Singing in the Rain, To Be or Not to Be, & Shawn of the Dead are on your list – I have yet to see “In Bruges”. I agree that Some Like it Hot is a practically perfect movie.

Story about Singing in the Rain – one year during my Birthday week, or around there-times, Pete took me to see a movie and managed to block all sounds and sights of the title of the movie we were seeing until the show started. As soon as the music began over the lion roaring, I knew immediately what the movie was and started tearing up and freaking out – Singing in the Rain has my birthday in it (March 24th), so I always consider it my Birthday movie…plus it’s one of the best movies ever made. Pete got major points for it, and since he hadn’t ever seen it before that night, I got to share it with him on the big screen. I agree – Singing is so beautiful on the big screen!

Kudos to Buster for getting better!!! Like Pete, I’ve never heard of a pet going into remission. That’s happy news in a few weeks of hell I’ve been going through.

It’s okay, we can all say it, I was a do-gooder, goodie two shoes growing up. I was so terrified of my dad yelling at me or disappointing my parents and doing anything wrong that I tried to be as perfect as possible. Not healthy, I know. And sometimes it comes back and bites me on the ass as an adult. I do remember as a kid playing with some baby birds in a nest after my mom told me to stay away from them. I heard someone coming and panicked, so I put them back up in the nest. They fell out and died. I knew better, but I was curious. I felt guilty for awhile thinking I murdered them. And as I keep trying to think of something big for you guys (because there has to be right?), my mom reminded me that I tried to get my sister into trouble by scratching her name into the side of my aunt’s car. Somehow, they all knew it was me anyway. Luckily, they were able to get it buffed out, so it wasn’t totally horrific for my aunt. I must have been really mad at my sister that particular day.

Shaun of the Dead and In Bruges are both excellent films. Two of my personal favorites (and it’s a shame I don’t own either yet), Out of Africa and Harold and Maude.

I’ve been saying “Shitballs” a lot lately. I said it in front of a running friend and she said “Oh, please don’t use that. My ex-husband used to say that all the time.” So, I try not to say it around her.

Yes, I hope you get to come see my play. 3 weekends left. Oct. 28 is our last show. Depending upon when you come, Stennie, I can either get you discount tickets or a comp. http://www.undeadplay.com

Siskita – That’s so cool that you got to share Singing in the Rain with Pete on the big screen!

YAY BUSTER!!!! I also, have never heard of an animal going into remission, but KUDOS for him! These little fur babies in our lives have a singular mission of grabbing all of our heartstrings at once and playing them like a bouzouki player with 6 hands and free Ouzo for life.
I will also chime in on “Copper”. I LOVE IT! But, I am a die-hard “Deadwood” fan, so it only follows to love Copper. Thus, I am now totally into period pieces since watching the “Forsythe Saga” as well, I think on Netflix streaming. I love the way Netflix has changed to suggest things in the same vein as soon as one show is over. In fact, I just started watching “Bramwell” last night. It is about a female physician in 1880-something London. Gritty, realistic, and decent writing makes for a great combo IMHO.
Kelly w/a Y, “shitballs” is, and has been my favorite word of late. I find many uses for it, and it always makes my girls giggle. They have a stipulation with cursing in that they may not use a curse word unless they can conjugate it in all tenses. Luckily, they don’t care to look up “conjugate” so I’m safe for a little while longer.
Sorry so short, I have a couple of tweeners in the house going to a birthday party. Please keep Movies coming. I’m on some significant bed rest, and trust your choices. I even watch the crap ones, just to say I agree that they are crap.
One last thing, the only movie I’ve found ‘worthy’ of 3D, is Avatar in Imax. Pixar losing their beautiful detail is a crime. A 3D television is THE single most stupid invention EVER, aside from the Flowbie (map?) hair cutting system.
    Love y’all gotta run.

  6. So.

I loved this week’s topic, but I feel I should set the record straight. As I recall, Patrick MLL recommended IN BRUGES, you two watched it and loved it, and then, on the strength of your enthusiasm, I watched it and joined the love-fest.

That said, I will take credit for turning you on to OSS 117 CAIRO: NEST OF SPIES, which I was somewhat surprised and dismayed to find absent from the list. (Maybe Bet was not as crazy about it as Stennie?)

Have you all seen SEXY BEAST? If not, and if you like A) Ray Winstone, B) IN BRUGES, and C) Ben Kingsley as the anti-Ghandi (making prodigious use of the C-word), you should check it out. Also, Ian McShane is (literally) scary-good in it.

I’d also like to recommend MONEYBALL; it’s kind of THE DAMNED UNITED of baseball; i.e., you don’t have to know or give a rat’s ass about the game to find the movie really engaging and enjoyable. And Brad Pitt does his best Robert Redford impression yet.

Finally, three cheers for BUSTER. That’s really excellent news. I think Buster is one of those cats who manages to skate through life on nothing more than good looks and charm. Nothing wrong with that.

    Howdy y’all~!
Just wanted to say ‘hi’ and thanks for always providing us a few good laughs! It’s a joy to listen and I never miss an episode. So glad to hear Buster is on the mend – great news! I have really enjoyed the slang origins info recently, especially the “It’s that man again” comment, which Stennie and I have discussed upon several occasions watching old films together. As for debates, they ARE merely theater and the VP showdown was pretty entertaining last night. Martha Raddatz did a fine job, but while listening to your discussion of potential moderators, Judge Judy came to mind! (Tee hee!) Finally, thanks for your official movie list. I concur with your choices and will arrange to see the few I’ve missed. Cheers, and have another great show tonight~! [Stennie, hope to see you at Griffith Observatory this Sunday?!]
