Just dropping by to say HI! I haven’t listened to the show yet. I’m falling behind like a slacking slacker.

But here’s something for you to discuss: why was Colbert taken off the air??

    Love you.

Neil deGrasse Tyson calls himself Pluto’s biggest frenemy–but he also mentions on his “Star Talk” podcast that he’s not the only scientist to demote Pluto. Someone else even wrote a book about it.

Sten, I think the original “The Muppet Show” was made for adults, too. There were a lot of music and a lot of celebrities on that show that I’d never heard of. I feel like those choices were made to make sure adults would watch with their kids and not want to shoot themselves in the head. Then again, I worked on a kids show and we weren’t even thinking about doing anything but making ourselves laugh.

But I do agree with you on how the “real life” thing from the original “Muppet Show” was missing in the movie. I’ve tried to keep that kind of reality up with Jay and Kay. What I didn’t like about “The Muppets” was that they CGed away the hand rods and did other things to erase the overtly puppety aspects of the movie. I also found Walt pretty boring as a character, as well. He’s likable enough, but not super memorable. I felt that the “are we the baddies” line was a bit too on-the-nose for it to not be a rip-off of Mitchell/Webb. But who knows?

Sten, what about B-movies in your class? Or what about what some say is the first “epic” film, “Birth of a Nation”. Otherwise, I would love to take both of your classes. But would I get actual college credit? If so, are they transferable to other universities? Or would I just have to keep studying at Hucklebug U?

Bet’s great bit in the stinger this week reminds me of the tail end of this clip from a very early MST3K: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS-o-gUcAuI

Gosh, I couldn’t even begin to figure out what class I would teach. I do, however, remember a really cool class in college discussing symbolism in film and I wrote a paper based on Gus Van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho.” The amount of things going on in that movie under the surface gave me a lot of ammo for my paper. I got an A.

There’s also the Star Trek English/Sociology class I had in college too. (You could use it as a credit for either subject.) Yes, we studied Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes, wrote a lot of papers and read a lot of books on society in general. Most kids on campus thought it was going to be a cake walk class, but it was one of the toughest classes I ever had. The beautiful caricature of the cast from the show graced the cover of our textbook. *squee*

I would do a Musical Movies syllabus, from Jazz Singer to Les Miserables 2012!
