Oh Betster – I could have done without your description of “the crud.” And the paperclip thing- GROSS! USE THAT NETTI POT.

Yes. They still make bobby pins, and I use them. They are helpful for when the front of your hair is layered, but you want to put your hair up. The bobby pins hold the stragglers.

And thank you for my shout out. I’ll try to be better about listening on time!

Stennie, I’m curious about your What’s Up With That about the USPS sending you the postcard with your address on it. The USPS made the hospital change how we write patient’s addresses. For example, instead of:
    2510 Monument Avenue
    Apartment 6
    Richmond, VA 23220
They now want us to do:
    Apartment 6
    2510 Monument Avenue
    Richmond, VA 23220
They say that their machinery reads from the bottom up.

I’m CAAAAAUGGGHHHHHTTTT UUUUUUUUPPPP!!! Finally! I’ve been listening to Hucklebugs exclusively when I’m in my car since early January, and I’m finally up to date. I think I had to catch up from all the way back to the pre-Halloween era. Anyway, what an enjoyable month and a half of non-stop HBs that was, but I’m happy to be able to comment on something that’s actually current.

I like “Where’s Bob.” My guess for this morning is The Pool.

Also, and I think this is from a recent episode, they’ve kind of started blurring together, what IS up with spitters? I can’t think of a bigger turn-off. And health hazard! Eeeeeeewwwwwww! People walk through that “loogie” you just “hocked” and then they track that stuff onto their carpets, and then they sit on the floor and fold laundry and eeeeeewwwwww!!!! SO GROSS. Talk about a deal-breaker. I was driving on the freeway when I listened to that part of the episode, Stennie, and I literally gagged. Just driving down the road gagging. Actually, I just gagged a little bit as I typed this paragraph. Boys, Men: please don’t spit. It makes us gag.

    Yuck.

I’d write more but Les got me RockBand for Valentines day (yes, I know we’re about 5 years late) so I’m very very very busy today. And from now on.

    Love you ladies!!

Hello! Checking in and letting you gals know I’m still listening, and it’s usually a case of “it’s Tuesday and I’ve listened to the episode and I’ll comment on it later and oh shit it’s suddenly Saturday morning and I was supposed to do something wasn’t I?” that keeps me from getting a proper shoutout πŸ˜‰

Maybe you two can help me – is there a TV commercial for a big product (ie not a local business) that has a theme song that Marquee Five could do a cover for? I don’t watch TV that much, but someone suggested we do our own version of a well-known commercial and use it to submit to commercial marketing companies…if you think of any, let me know.

Bobby Pins are, of course, essential in my craft – can’t get my wig on (that’s not a euphemism) without putting pin curls up, and can’t do that without bobby pins! Styles nowadays, even for youthful women in audition rooms, are longer and flowy-er, maybe because people are saving money and not going to get haircuts. I’m watching Downton Abbey, and the style of hair was really long, then pulled up into a short nape-of-the-neck collection (they must have used a lot of bobby pins or french pins). Why they took so long to finally decide to cut it in “the boy’s fashion” is beyond me!

Thanks for reading, and if you want to help Marquee Five’s public image, go star and review our CD on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/8-track-throwback/id498717773) and Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/8-Track-Throwback/dp/B0072I4DOM/) — we could use a little love!

  5. Heidi gets the YouRule from my last week for listening to my radio debut/swan song…even for a few minutes…you almost won the cookies, but Okahoma is further away from me than LA…BTW, do you think Juneau AK is further than OK? I guess I could mapquest it…

I watch Parenthood every week. I love the talking-over-each-other-not-listening-what-did-you-say? moments….

I heart nextflix streaming. Did you see the one where Monica Potter’s character tries to spice up their old married sex life???? HYSTERICAL. That was the first episode I saw that hooked me. I could live without Lauren Graham and her pretend smile….

I strongly recommend Downton Abbey and Damages…great time wasters for when you are sick or the weather is bad..

And BTW I still do theatre..I have plenty of bobby pins..and now that my hair is “long enough” to clip up for the first time since my surgery, I use them for stragglers….

I want to give a fuck off to people in coffee shops who take a table for two (between two other tables where people are having quiet time) and put five chairs around it to have a social meeting….can I do that??

We posted photos from the Jimmy Buffet Bar in VegasBaby for you, with the silly balloon hats…oh, good times….

(yes, I know you are impressed..but don’t be..I’ve skipped many past episodes to listen and respond responsibly….

    love you!!

I do remember that ep of the Young Ones, but I don’t remember Stephen Fry being in it. Now I shall have to find that ep and watch it since I’m such a fan of his now.

Wow–did I miss a Hucklebug (“an” Hucklebug?)? I think I did, but thought you guys were off for a couple weeks. πŸ™ I have not been keeping up well, have I? My humble apologies!!

Oh and I always get Jimmy and Warren confused. What’s even more stupid is that their last name makes me hungry.

The caffeine never kicked in today. πŸ™

  7. Donna says:

We are big Downton Abbey fans, probably not a big surprise to anyone. And Marla,Marla,Marla, we’ve also watched all of the seasons of Damages — boy, you really have to be awake during those with all those “three months earlier,” “six hours later,” etc. crap. And lastly, we love Parenthood. We have watched it since it’s beginning. The writer and executive producer, Jason Katima, did the same for Friday Night Lights. Both shows do (did in the case of FNL) such a good job with character development, very real people. Everytime they have one of those talking-over-each-other-scenes, I like it all the more because it’s what a real family fight is like. We love Craig T Nelson (although he seems to play the same character all the time) and Bonnie Bedelia. The teen actor playing Max with Asperger’s syndrome is an amazing actor. One of my favorite episodes was the one this year when Amber worked with Max to apologize to his cousin. And by the way, Peter Krause (Adam) and Lauren Graham (Sarah & yes, Gilmore Girls), are dating in real life — gives new meaning to kissing your sister!

  8. I’m sorry to say that in my, ahem, younger days, I may have been insufficiently conscientious with regard to public spitting. Though I did develop impressive distance and accuracy. Oh, and there was also the matter of nostril clearing while on a run during cold mornings . . .

FWIW, my wife was mightily impressed by my ability to hock a loogie out the window of a car traveling at 70+ mph–with sufficient force to keep it from blowing back into the window or getting on the car.

Nowadays, if it’s absolutely necessary to do it, I try to be as discreet as possible–what I like to call “circumspectoration.” Certainly not where anyone has to see or, god forbid, step in it.
