Overdue to send a comment, so stopping mid-podcast to say:
Ziploc bag labels: I think they’re more helpful if you freeze everything.
I’ve used them when my wife had each of our progenies, so either of us braindead/sleep-deprived zombies could make a hot meal quickly. We (mostly she) cooked some casseroles, stews and soups, plus we got some food from family and that way we could identify it by (surprise) content and date. You’d be surprised how much that stuff starts looking the same.
OK. Back to the show as regularly scheduled.

Listening to your discussion of gas prices made me think a Price is Right game might work.

Like you would each visit Amazon or some other retail site prior to the show and find something odd like golf tees or fish food or a parachute, give a description (and perhaps tell if there’s a 30% discount or something to make it fair) and see how close to other could come. Play up to 5 items and add up the difference to determine a Price Is Hucklebug winner. Just a thought to keep the heat off me for another week or so for missing all those weeks in a row.

  3. I think “it is what it is” can be more or less egregious, depending on the circumstances.

If you use it to relieve yourself of responsibility to another person, that’s lame. It’s like that old thing about “good enough for government work.” You’re basically saying, “I did as much as I care to be bothered; take it or leave it.”

If, on the other hand, you use it in a subjective, reflexive way in an attempt to be sanguine about a shitty situation–“Hey, Bob, how’s your golf game coming along?” “Eh, it is what it is” — that’s not so bad. It’s still a tired cliche expression, but at least you’re not using it to rationalize a half-assed effort.

For the record, you should know that I am a huge Arrested Development fan. I have the Bob Loblaw quote on my FB page (“You don’t need legal double-talk; you need Bob Loblaw”). And I have thought seriously about calling my law blog “Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog,” not least because, as anybody who’s read my blog knows, I’m quite a mouthful.

Hi. I deserve a shout out because I moved today. That is all. Anyone want to unpack boxes?

  5. Donna says:

Greetings from central Virginia! We have yet to catch up on our listenin’ so no pertinent comments here. I would love to go all the way back to the t-shirt topic (and may eventually!). Janet’s mother and one of her sisters came over for 10 days over the holidays — this was their first Christmas without Janet’s dad so it was important to distract her mum and have a different kind of celebration this year. We had a great time showing them the commercial side of Christmas in America! We also hosted a Boxing Day party!

So, hats off to you both for keeping up the podcast. WE don’t have time to listen to it yet there you two are, every week, plugging away!

  6. thepete says:

Thanks for the shoutout, guys! Of course, this comment will not get one since I’m leaving it on a Sunday so I’ll keep it short.

Sten, I’m really only on Twitter and my blog. Follow either and you’ll get links to all of my doings online. I post to Flickr, YouTube and other sites, but everything gets tweeted and usually blogged, as well. If you want to follow just Jay and/Kay they both have Twitter accounts and Jay might start crossposting to Facebook again. But I hesitate since every time I log into FB I expect things to have changed and to have been moved around.

Bet, Siskita and I saw that Sherlock Holmes movie–or I should say tried to see it. It was so bad, we had to turn it off. We couldn’t even quip to it, so I think you are a stronger person than either of us! πŸ™‚ I recommend the BBC’s “Sherlock” if you’re looking for a good new Holmes adaptation. I haven’t watch the second series/season yet but the first was really good.

    OK, I’m keeping it short!

  7. thepete says:

Sorry! Obviously, I left the comment before Bet got to the part where she mentions BBC’s “Sherlock” stupid me! I should have waited until the end to click “Post Comment”. :/

  8. Scotty Dude says:

Just catching up. Bet you are right about the Blind Faith album cover.

“Green, green grass of home” was a 1965 country song first recorded by Porter Wagoner, then Jerry Lee Lewis whose version inspired Tom Jones’ famous rendition. Other artists who have recorded the song include Charlie Pride, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Elvis Presley and Kenny Rogers.
