You should go back to last week’s episode and answer the comments you didn’t answer.
oh, and FIRST!
Excellent show, except that the new headset, Stenns. You sounded like you were talking from a tin can.
1:I have to take notes during the show or I forget what I want to say, its worse than homework.
2:I will take on Pete as ‘the dictionary’ anyday, just ask Donna.
3:[From last week]Don’t give Pippa a hard time, it is not her fault she is dogged by the tabloids, who write a lot of rubbish. PS Pippa is a contraction of Phillipa which is a fairly common girls name amongst the British upper classes
4: Just drink the Bluefield water already and be sure to get a credit on the rental for the 2 months you had no water. I could say a lot about how non environmental bottled
water is but I will hold back.
5.Tim Gunn ….YEAH
so glad that Donna made me listen to the show, love Janet
I just noticed I missed the apostrophe in ‘it’s’, I am mortified
Sorry, but have to agree with Dishy about the headset. Bet sounds great, but Stennie sounds like you’re a million miles away and it’s really tinny.
As for the swearing thing, I did have to cut it back after NTCNTC was born because I know little kids are mimics. It was very hard not to laugh at the whole thing because it IS funny. I had no intention of making a big deal about it, which is why I was a bit surprised when my simple “that’s not a nice word and we don’t use it” turned into a litany of words. So the next time he starts in with a different word (“Get out of my way, mother****er”) I’m just going to pretend like I didn’t hear anything and hope it’s not to his grandmother or the priest.
Looking at last week’s comments, what I have to say is that if Dishy is peeved about useless tourists clogging up public transportation and Starbucks at 7:30 am, she should live in DC. It’s ASTONISHING. They’re everywhere, moving really slowly, trying to figure out how public transportation works by walking in big packs and stopping in the middle of escalators, train platforms and shouting loudly and not stepping out of the way while they’re marveling over the newfangled big city technology, like the metro. You’re on vacation — sleep in in your hotel and don’t head out until 9 or 10 am when tourist stuff opens!
One more — I don’t have time to finish listening this morning and don’t know if I’ll get back to it before you record, but here’s one for reality show people I hate. Since every reality show out there has someone awful on it, I tried to think of people who stick out in my head years later and one biggie came to mind. I suspect he’ll be on one of your lists, but my winner is Mr. “My-Ox-Is-Broken” himself, Jonathan of “Jonathan and Victoria” fame from The Amazing Race.
Okay, I can’t believe I mixed them up, but for clarity, I mean J&V and not Colin and Christie. Colin was a spoiled idiot. Jonathan was a wife abuser.
merci pour l’endossement! Tommy Boy
We enjoyed this week’s topic and discussed it at such length that we started a list of our favorites and assholes, too. Here we were thinking we didn’t watch a lot of reality TV since there were several that you all mentioned that we didn’t watch but then we came up with a very long list of past and current reality shows that we have watched or continue to watch.
Favorites:
— (TAR) Kevin & Drew – what fun guys
— (TAR) Danny & Oswald — loved it when they went in to the luxury hotel to hang out in the lobby until it was time for the task to begin
— (TAR) Uchenna & Joyce — the first couple that they ever showed taking the time to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings and just how cool it was to be there AND the fact that they won their season over Rob & Amber!
— Cat Deeley of So You Think You Can Dance — genuine, beautiful and English, the perfect trifecta.
— Two Fat Ladies — Clarissa Dickson Wright and the late Jennifer Patterson — what a fun and funny pair!
— Project Runway — Tim Gunn — genuine and nice; favorite designer – Chris March.
— Trading Spaces — Paige Davis in the early years of the show
— Little People, Big World — Amy Roloff for putting up with Matt’s ego and irresponsible spending
— The Mole — Anderson Cooper!!
–Two Hot Tamales — I, Donna, never watched their cooking show but Janet did and loved them from that. But then I fell in love with both Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger on Top Chef Masters. Both can kick butt while playing nice.
— What Not to Wear – Stacy London & Clinton Kelly because they stick to their convictions and turn ugly ducklings in to swans.
— Clean House — Niecy Nash is a hoot.
— Cash Cab — Ben Bailey
— Project Runway’s Santino Rice and Austin Scarlet. We didn’t watch their seasons (one & two) of PR but their On the Road with Austin & Santino was great, as they went to small town America and designed dresses for ordinary woman’s special occassions, using the local fabric shops and eating at the local dives. The way Scarlet would sashay in to these places was admirable — he definitely needs to do a “things get better” commercial.
Assholes:
— (TAR) Terri & Ian – hated him, hated his dorky hat. Loved it when he screwed up and put regular gas in the diesel car.
— Little People, Big World — Matt Roloff for never appreciating Amy and not recognizing the growing separation between Amy & the kids and himself.
— The Duggers — they give us the heebie-jeebies just catching a glimpse of them while changing channels. Have never watched the show and never will. Did see them in the airport in New York — of course that was several children ago.
— Lou Pearlman, the creepy white guy managing the band on Making the Band
— Gordon Ramsey
— The Donald
— Elizabeth Filarski Hasselback who went from a favorite on Survivor, to a good host of The Look for Less to a out-spoken, narrow-minded Republican.
— NaOnka on Survivor: Nicaragua, an elementary teacher from Los Angeles. If ever there was a reason to worry about the quality of today’s teachers, NaOnka is it.
Sorry for the long post but thanks for the trip down memory lane!
So when are we doing a group movie? We could even use Google+ to talk to each other while watching. I understand that you can share video over G+ which makes me wonder if Netflix Streaming would work…
Speaking of Netflix, FUCK OFF by proxY!
Sadly, Sten you sound like you’ve got a cold or are on the high school’s loudspeaker this week. I don’t mind it but I did notice it.
Bet, I didn’t get rid of my TV just stopped watching broadcast TV for the most part. And believe me, there’s no shortage of things to get annoyed at without watching broadcast TV!
I’ve got to run now though–Siskita and I are going to see a movie at the Japan Society tonight. I just saw a couple movies there on Tuesday that I want to recommend: “The Last Ronin” and “Sword of Desperation”. Both are brand new movies and are in the tradition of “Seven Samurai” though the former is much more about emotion than fighting. The latter is now in my top 5 favorite movies now. “Sword of Desperation” was really good. Watch for it.
Hey, could we do “The Apple” in a Google+ hangout? I’m going to be doing a regular 4pm ET hangout on Sundays–join me if you’re curious. It works pretty well. Also: what do you two think of the Netflix price hike?
Late-breaking shout-out?
Does Dancing w/ the Stars count as a reality show? If so, my most-loathed DWTS person is already well-documented. I must say, though, that of the pros, I have a bit of a man-crush on Derek Hough. He wasn’t on the last season, and the show suffered for it.
Watch this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoTY0kXvOG0 and try to tell me I’m wrong.
OK–listening to rest of the ‘bug now that it’s a day later and I have time.
Sierra has loads of friends. I only pretend to be extroverted. While I know a lot of people, I have only a handful of close friends.
I CAN’T BELIEVE SOMEONE ELSE REMEMBERS “KIDS ARE PEOPLE TOO”!!! Seriously–vague memories of that show has plagued me my whole life. I don’t remember the wack-a-do part, but when you sang that part, Stennie, something deep in my gut trembled–so somewhere deep down, I have a strange, strong connection with that show. I don’t know why. Wasn’t it on Sunday mornings?
THANKS FOR THE YOURULE, STEN! Hope you’re digging G+!
