I feel personally responsible for the lack of comments last week. Sorry! I was a day behind all week. I wasn’t at chat, for example, because I thought it was Wednesday
So I’m early in this week’s show, but I just needed to add – my Dad went to school with Sedaka. And my Dad said that he was so annoying that he and his friends kicked his ass on a regular basis. That must have been before Sedaka got the famus.
I’m not even bothering to catch up. I’m just skipping ahead. I’m typing this while waiting to see a live taping of the Daily Show. Every 4 months we can go again.
I do not have a Bob in my family. Not even a Robert that I know of.
Possibly more later!
I’m glad Weiner has imploded. He wanted to remove the bike lanes from Manhattan. FUCK THAT GUY. I don’t even ride a bike and I don’t get why anyone would think bike lanes in NYC are a bad idea. Fuck off Anthony Weiner!
Forgive me: I was on vacation last week. Not sure if it woulda made my top 2, but it was fun all the same.
Spall and Sheen make DAMNED UNITED damned fine. Michael Sheen has been in a bunch of bunk including TRON: LEGACY and the UNDERWORLD series, but is always interesting and watchable.
I’m with Pete. No Bobs in my direct family. Lotsa Dicks though.
Hi! I’m here! Still getting caught up and I haven’t made it to this episode yet, but I wanted to say HI. And I’M HERE!
Les got me a blu-ray disc of Blazing Saddles for my birthday. But his favorite is Young Frankenstein. Is it a rule that in an awesome pairing, one partner has to love Blazing Saddles while the other loves Young Frankenstein? Is it true there are just two kinds of people in the world? Or perhaps there are three – those who don’t like either. But those people can suck it.
Topic for you: top 10 movies one HAS to see in the theatre to fully appreciate.
Love you gals!!!
Also: how’s it going with the sock monkey kits, ladies? Hmmmmm?
Best vacation, wasn’t really a vacation since Sierra was in a show and I did videography, but we got to go to Scotland for two weeks. We loved like locals and I felt like I actually got to know and fall in love with Edinburgh. We even got married there π Best vacation and best time of my life.
oh yeah–and when are we doing “The Apple”?
Don’t worry — I had checked in to see if there were any comments to make sure at least one got on there. But there were some, and I still hadn’t listened, so I said “oh, I’ll listen and actually comment on substance later”….and fell asleep.
Only a great uncle Bob (Robert) in our family.
On site at the Greek Festival, we had galaktoboureko for dessert but Janet did buy the pastries-to-go box which included baklava. And by the way, I went back on Sunday and went through the drive-thru (hey, this is their 35th year and they are seriously organized!) for Sunday lunch and dinner!
Hearing Stennie talk about visiting Dole pineapple on Oahu reminded me of my favorite political bumper sticker ever. From 1996, “Clinton for President, Dole for Pineapple.” After all these years, still makes me laugh.
Favorite vacation? As a kid, we ALWAYS went to Myrtle Beach. One year, when my younger brother was about four or five, my dad turned a different direction on our way to the beach. My parents wouldn’t tell us where we were going but then we started seeing signs for Tweetsie Railroad. Sure enough, that’s where we were headed, shocking us kids. I remember getting Darby Hinton’s autograph (he was Daniel Boone’s TV son), seeing the saloon girls flirting with my dad during the musical lunch show and dad getting mad because of the “I visited Tweetsie Railroad” bumper sticker that put on the car while we were in the park.
Favorite vacation as an adult? That’s a tough one because we take fantastic trips all the time. One of my favorite memories from one was when we were doing the Olympic peninsula in September 2001. Yes, the week of 9/11. We were scheduled to go to Victoria, Canada for a day trip via a ferry and a bus on 9/12. Most people cancelled their reservation but 6 of us still went. Seeing the Canadian flags at half-mast and hearing a bag piper playing Amazing Grace and the American National Anthem by the harbor was chilling. Coming back on the ferry, we overheard an American man reading Harry Potter aloud to his fellow adult travelers. Janet loves HP and is an excellent reader, so she volunteered to read for him. More people gathered around listening to the Queen’s English — it was a special time and a welcome distraction to the worries that day.
Firstly: congrats Heidi on losing weight! It is an inspiration for me to get off the extra sugar and carbs and do more workouts in the week. Yay for you!
Secondly: I second Pete on our 2-week vacation-show-wedding trip. We stood on the bridge in Edinburgh on our last night there and cried and didn’t want it to end. I also have incredibly fond memories of taking month-long vacations with my mom and step-dad to Quadra Island in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Fishing, camping, cooking salmon over an open flame, fresh ling cod soup, seeing killer whales breach and dive beneath us, literally battling the seals who would steal our salmon off our lines, oh it was lovely. And we did it for about 5 or 6 years in a row, every summer – I grew up on those smells, tastes, and early mornings.
That bike riding kid is awesome. Reposted that on Facebook.
I listened to my first Hucklebug. It brought back memories of the sports pages in The Daily Mirror in my school days. Brian Clough was frequently featured.
English TV has recently shown a drama called “United” about Manchester United in the late 50’s/early 60’s when Jackie & Bobby Charlton played for them. The team apparently suffered a plane crash in Germany (which I don’t remember; I was too young) ala Remember Marshall. These guys were a cornerstone of the 1966 World Cup winning team. I don’t know if you could find the show on NetFlix.
I can’t pick a favorite vacation. Donna would say it’s the one she’s planning. National Parks are always a good bet.
I enjoyed listening to you guys.
Neil Sedaka did indeed play The Puyallup (good call, Stennie); I’m thinking ~1978. What DQ’d it from Real Concert status wasn’t the act or the venue so much as the fact that I went *with my mom and step-dad.* Ugh.
Would you indulge me a couple of self-promotional links–one personal, one professional?
1. I got tapped to go on the radio and talk with Jim & Greg of Sound Opinions regarding my favorite song about fathers/fatherhood. (Anybody care to hazard a guess about my pick? I could maybe work up a bucket of puke for the first correct answer.) The show airs this weekend, or you can stream/download it Monday from http://www.soundopinions.org/
Let me just add that, while it was fun to chat with those guys, they’re no Bet & Stennie. Not even close.
2. I’ve (finally!) started a law blog. It’s called Triangle Trademark Law (for now) and you can see it here: http://www.brownerpllc.com/blog/ I’m touting it as “a resource for artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, marketing types, and anyone interested in what happens at the intersection of business, law, technology, and creativity.”
It’s mostly going to be me holding forth on timely IP issues, and attempting to translate the arcane and bass-ackwards language of copyright and trademark law into easily digestible morsels of plain English. If you ever wanted to know something about those issues, please drop by and suggest a topic or leave a comment.
Here endeth the self-pimpery. We now rejoin our regularly scheduled shout-outs, already in progress.
